Llanishen Rotary Club Presents Record Donation to Velindre Cancer Centre

On Thursday, 13th February, I had the honour of presenting Velindre Cancer Hospital with a cheque for £4,000.00, alongside my joint President (the one with the beard!). This marks the largest single donation our club has ever presented, a milestone we’re incredibly proud to achieve.

The funds will directly support Velindre’s Breast Cancer unit for the development of treatment and care. We raised this impressive amount by bringing our Sleigh and Father Christmas to Morrison and Asda supermarkets during the festive season, where the community showed tremendous generosity.

A Message from Velindre

In response to our donation, we received this heartwarming letter from Velindre Cancer Centre:

“Dear Geoff and all at Llanishen Rotary Club,

On behalf of Velindre Cancer Centre, we would like to thank you for your kind donation of £4,000.00 raised through your Christmas Sleigh days. Your continued support is sincerely appreciated and makes a huge difference to patients and their families.

Velindre, the Hospital of Hope has been providing specialist treatment and supportive care to cancer patients and families for over 60 years. Money raised for us funds ground breaking research and clinical trials, cutting edge treatments, specialist nurses, support services, therapies, equipment and so much more which are above those provided by the NHS – so donations really do have a significant impact on patients and their families. More people than ever are living with cancer and survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years through better treatments and earlier detection.

Your donation will allow us to continue to provide Hope for the future.”

The Impact of Community Fundraising

It’s heartening to learn that our contribution will help fund groundbreaking research, clinical trials, cutting-edge treatments, specialist nurses, and various support services that go beyond standard NHS provisions.

Velindre Cancer Centre has been a beacon of hope for cancer patients and their families for over 60 years, and we’re proud to support their vital work. The fact that cancer survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years demonstrates the importance of continued funding for research and treatment development.

We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who supported our Christmas Sleigh fundraiser. Your generosity has made this record-breaking donation possible, bringing hope and improved care to those who need it most.

Together, we’re making a difference in our community.
