A huge thank you to the 5 fantastic students from Llanishen High School who recently visited the Cardiff Foodbank (CFB) Warehouse!
As part of their Welsh Baccalaureate Course, the students got a firsthand look at the vital logistics that keep the foodbank running. They followed the entire journey of a donation, learning how items are received, weighed, and carefully organized onto the warehouse shelves by the incredible team of volunteers.
A Stark Reality: Empty Shelves
The visit couldn’t have come at a more critical time. As highlighted in the recent Western Mail newspaper cutting, Cardiff Foodbank is currently facing an unprecedented crisis. For the first time ever, the warehouse is running completely out of core, essential items due to a 27% drop in food and essential donations, combined with sky-high demand. The Foodbank spending an average of £6,000 a month topping up supplies just to keep pace.
Seeing the process up close gave the students a real understanding of how crucial every single donation is to support families who are feeling the pinch.
Special Thanks
This eye-opening educational visit wouldn’t have been possible without some amazing people:
-
Rachel Biggs and Annie Hillman: Thank you for being so marvellous in engaging with the students. We hope they will make great use of everything they learned!
-
John Hailes: A big shout-out for providing the “taxi” service to and from the CFB and supporting the group throughout the morning.
How You Can Help
If you are able to give, the foodbank is desperately short of the following core items:
- Coffee (we have none!)
- Long life fruit juice
- Sponge puddings
- Sweets and chocolate
- Tinned potatoes
- Tinned custard
- Tinned rice pudding
- Instant pasta/noodles
- Condiments
- Cereal
As always, thank you all for your continued support. Together, we can help restock those shelves!
