Llanishen Rotary Club Supports Young Talent in Public Speaking and Music

Llanishen Rotary Club has been at the heart of fostering young talent, supporting both the Youth Speaks debating competition and the Cardiff Area Rotary Young Musician of the Year.

Last week, Llanishen High School hosted the first round of the Rotary Club’s annual Youth Speaks debate competition. The school entered four teams across junior and senior categories, demonstrating both confidence and eloquence in their arguments. The judges were particularly impressed with Llanishen 2 Juniors, comprising Eleanor Hopkins, Fleur Horton, and Eloise Jenkins, who won their heat with a compelling discussion on the topic of nature vs nurture. Their success means Llanishen High School will host the next stage of the competition on 4th February, where they hope to continue their winning streak.

Meanwhile, in the world of music, Llanishen’s own Owen Holcombe represented the area in the Cardiff Area Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition. Showcasing his remarkable drumming skills, Owen delivered an electrifying performance featuring intricate rhythms and dynamic fills. Despite strong competition from classical musicians, the judges praised his energy and technical prowess. Owen’s passion for music has also earned him offers to study at prestigious institutions, including the Academy of Contemporary Music in London.

Llanishen Rotary Club is proud to support these talented young individuals, providing them with platforms to develop their skills and gain invaluable experience. Congratulations to all participants, and best of luck in the upcoming rounds!
